Arizona Heart: Three advanced technology operating rooms with state-of-the art C-arm solutions
Leading hospital for the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disease opts for Ziehm Vision RFD for virtually unlimited imaging
Phoenix, AZ / Orlando, FL, January 23, 2012 – Arizona Heart, one of the area’s leading hospitals for the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disease, has invested in a number of technological advancements to increase patients and physician satisfaction over the past year. One of the most important improvements is the addition of Ziehm digital flat panel C-arms in the hospital’s three advanced technology suites. The Ziehm Vision RFD hybrid edition delivers distortion-free, high-resolution images for interventional procedures, and represents a cost-efficient alternative solution to fixed installed systems. In addition, Arizona Heart has installed twelve ceiling-mounted monitors from Ziehm Imaging that guarantee for ideal visualization in the OR.

Arizona Heart specializes in different type procedures on the cardiovascular system, including percutaneous or catheter-based interventions on complex aortic problems. Dr. Grayson H. Wheatley III, MD, performs an increasing number of hybrid procedures that combine the advantages of traditional open surgery with image-guided catheter-based interventions. These less-invasive interventions speed up recovery for patients and minimize pain, all while treating more complex problems. “Without imaging in our OR, we would not be able to successfully treat many critically ill patients. The Ziehm C-arm is often used for long and complex cases which can take hours to complete. The Ziehm system offers an image quality that is comparable with many fixed imaging systems, and it has never shut down due to inadequate heat management”, says Dr. Grayson H. Wheatley III. “A reliable imaging solution is critical since the last thing we want to worry about when treating the patient is the C-arm shutting down because of overheating.”

The Ziehm Vision RFD is exactly tailored to hybrid OR use criteria. With up to 25 images per second, its powerful monoblock generator also produces high-quality X-rays of moving objects such as beating hearts. The C-arm features a user-friendly Touchscreen interface that is mounted to the sterile OR table, an injector interface that synchronizes contrast media with the imaging process, and an interface for external displays. Lead technologist Scott Cox R.T. is part of the team that performs between 120-150 endovascular and hybrid procedures per month. “One of the best things about the Ziehm C-arms is their ease of use. It is very easy to switch between live angio, subtracted roadmapping and the archived images using the touchscreen interface mounted on the C-arm.”
Development work is not sufficient to make innovative technology a safe and effective tool for surgeons. Ziehm Imaging is dedicated to provide an outstanding service, including training for medical staff and continuous assistance during the installation phase. Shanna Woyak, Chief Operation Officer at Arizona Heart, was impressed with the service level of the mobile C-arm manufacturer throughout the entire project: “The service excellence we have experienced with Ziehm Imaging is unsurpassed. They are accessible and visible and have played a viable role in our physician and staff education on the C-arms. Ziehm Imaging has gone above and beyond to accommodate our needs.”
